When you flip on the news, it sure seems that electric this and green that is all you see. Well, while that is somewhat taking over the world, General Motors went ahead and went against the grain by revealing some pretty cool news. GM released their refreshed ’22 Silverado last year unveiling a string of upgrades and changes to this popular light-duty pickup, but it’s the news of the diesel off-road package that has us wondering.
According to GM Authority’s sources, this upcoming Diesel Off-Road Package will be offered on the LT and RST trim packages. The new ’22 Silverado will be backed with a list of upgrades which include the following:
- 3.73 axle ratio (GT4)
- LT275/65R18C MT Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac blackwall tires (R3O)
- Chrome assist steps (BVT)
- Hard-folding tonneau cover (VOZ)
If you’re wanting a four-wheel drive, you’re in luck. This package comes only in four-wheel drive, as well as the Crew Cab body style, the Z71 Off-road package, and obviously the diesel engine. The engine is the known 3.0-liter LM2 Duramax turbo diesel engine that, as you may know, cranks out 277-horsepower and 460-lb/ft of torque.
Unfortunately, the new diesel off-road package isn’t available in conjunction with the Max Trailer Package, Snow Plow Prep Package, Rally Edition, and the Z71 Off-Road and Protection Package. While some of those make sense, the Max Trailering and Snow Plow Prep seem odd. You would think those packages would work well with a diesel engine full of grunt.
In addition to the LM2 diesel engine, the refreshed 2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 is also offered with the turbocharged 2.7-liter gasoline engine, now uprated to produce 430 pound-feet of torque, as well as the naturally aspirated 5.3-liter V8 gasoline engine and naturally aspirated 6.2-liter V8 gasoline engine.
