It’s funny to think that the King of The Hammers has only been around since 2007 and yet it has gained so much popularity. Having been to the race this year, it is safe to say that the event continues to entertain audiences and gain momentum. As part of the OG13, or 12 drivers of the first KOH race, JT Taylor is the last remaining founder who still continues to compete in the race year after year.
We caught up with JT Taylor in the pits to gain some insight about the race and why they decided to start the KOH. Taylor explained, “I’m one of the OG13. There was 12 of us that originally did this race when it wasn’t really a race. It was just a run to see if it would really work!” Considering how big of a deal this race has become, it’s amazing that the race wasn’t even started to be a race in the first place – it was just an excuse to see if the run was even possible!
Taylor then shifted focus and discussed what keeps him coming back and what it’s like being the last remaining OG13 member still racing. Taylor concluded, “All the rest of the OG13 are not racing anymore – financial reasons or just tired of it. I guess I am the only one that’s stupid enough to still be doing it!” With such a great attitude, it’s impossible to have anything other than the utmost respect for JT Taylor.
