World records are held by people who have pushed the limits of man and machine. Red Bull sponsored driver, Bryce Menzies, looks to break the world record for distance jumped in an off-road vehicle, but looks to do it jumping his 900 horsepower two-wheel-drive Pro 2 over an entire town.
You may think we are joking, but Menzies looks to jump over an abandoned ghost town in the Southwestern part of the United States. The current record is held by Tanner Foust when he jumped the Hot Wheels truck in 2011.
Menzies, a 29-year-old native of Las Vegas, has been a force in off-road since breaking into the sport in 2007. He has racked up numerous wins and championships in various classes including the Baja 500 three times, Mint 400, TORC Pro 2 Championship three times, and Red Bull Frozen Rush twice.
“I had the idea for this jump because it’s just something that I’ve always wanted to do. Ever since I was a kid, I’ve loved jumping things – dirt bikes, buggies, whatever,” said Menzies. “And as an adult, I’ve really wanted to see how far I could jump my race truck. We race all the time, but we never get to come play on jumps like this, so it’s awesome that Red Bull and Pennzoil are behind me and making this whole thing possible. I’m just looking forward to doing it and really having fun in the process.”
If Menzies is racing you can guarantee that he will put up a fight. We recently saw him take on a drag racer with his Trophy Truck, there is no challenge that he will not take on. This will be a unique challenge for Menzies, but something that will showcase the sport to the world.
The stunt is more than just breaking a world record, but signifying taking his racing career into the international sphere. Menzies raced at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge in April where he secured an placed 4th, which fueled his desire to dig deeper into the toughest off-road races in the world. Could this mean we will see Menzies take on the 2017 Dakar?
The jump will air live on air live on Red Bull TV August 27 at 12 pm PST. Will you be watching?
