The RAM is heading down under in a big way. Ram sales are going all over and it is not just happening in the United States. There have been two announcements about the Ram heading to Australia.
There has been an new import agreement reached that will dramatically increase the number of RAM trucks coming to Australia. SCD American Vehicles, a low-volume Australian converter, has also announced it will begin to start importing the RAM 1500 EcoDiesel.
The Ram EcoDiesel comes with a 3.0L V6 diesel engine with 420 lb-ft. of torque. It also has a eight-speed automatic transmission. The truck has the half-ton diesel market to itself, with no other contenders using a diesel engine; that is, until the 2016 Nissan Titan enters the market with its own proprietary Cummins diesel mill.
The 2500 and 3500 models of the RAM will be the first models being offered, and are expected to roll out in September. The US versions of these trucks can be had with a 5.7L and 6.4L V8 gas engine and the 6.7L Cummins diesel engine.
SCD is no stranger to converting the 2500 and 3500 models, as they have been doing them for 10 years with more than 300 conversions completed. This process is not easy or cheap.
The converted RAM 1500 trucks cost around $82,000 in Australian dollars, which equates to around $64,500 USD. Australians can import their own RAM from a U.S. dealer, as SCD offers a conversion and compliance package for $39,000 Australian.
If you are living in Australia and want a Mopar workhorse, it seems your time has finally come. With the automotive industry growing along with the growth of recreational trailer use, there’s plenty of opportunity for the RAM to flourish down under.
