America certainly deserves credit when it comes to rugged pickup truck culture, but as Jeremy Clarkson and the Top Gear crew proved time and again, the Toyota Hilux is a every bit as capable a vehicle as anything built by Ford, GM, or Fiat-Chrysler. From surviving a building collapse to crawling up a volcano or driving to the North Pole, the Toyota Hilux has been put through some extreme trials, and all in the name of entertainment.
So what do you make of this Bulgarian-built, six-wheeled Toyota Hilux monster? While it is all business on the outside, the well-appointed interior would impress all but the most particular pickup truck buyers.
Built by Vromos, a Bulgarian off-roading speciality shop, this Toyota Hilux required a lot of custom work as you might imagine. This includes a unique frame to fit the six-by-six setup that can handle the chunky off-road tires and beefy differentials that give this Hilux the ability to scale all but the most brutal trails.
While the turning radius has undoubtedly suffered from the extra differential, the interior was given an opulent makeover by another shop, Overdrive. Leather covers almost every surface on the inside of the crew cab, making for a much different driving experience than the utilitarian exterior might otherwise indicate. The custom body, engine snorkel, and huge tires definitely mean business, but that doesn’t mean you can’t ride in comfort for the right price.
Now the question becomes, is it street-legal, and if not, where exactly does one drive a custom, expensive, six-wheeled Toyota Hilux? We bet the boys of Top Gear might have a few choice ideas.
