Off-roading has found its way into video games, and lately, the biggest one to make an impact has been Snowrunner. It’s the latest in the Spintires franchise that began back in 2014, and was followed by Spintires: Mudrunner in 2017.
Snowrunner follows in the footsteps of Mudrunner, but offers a great deal more. There are now larger maps, new locations, detailed in-cab views, and more licensed manufacturers like Chevrolet, Ford, Hummer, and medium- and heavy-duty vehicles like Caterpillar and International.
The game started as an indie hit, and is now entering the mainstream and attracting attention from some of YouTube’s up-and-coming gamer channels. One of these is PhlyDaily, an American gamer better known for playing the tank/plane simulator War Thunder. He recently decided to try something different and give this off-road game a spin, and he definitely got his money’s worth.
The video starts with him and some friends stuck in mud as their trucks do nothing but churn up earth. Their only hope is a measly Hummer H2 barreling down the trail. It winches PhlyDaily out of the muck, and then he helps out his friends escape the mud as well. “All it took was a Hummer and a botched Russian Jeep,” he jokes.
The more the guys play the game, the more hilarious trouble they get into. One of them flips over a semi truck with a trailer, and after several minutes of trying to rescue him, do so, only to have the same guy flip his truck again. The kind of stuff that would give off-roaders migraines in real life are just too funny to watch in Snowrunner.
The game is available now for PC, XBox One, and PS4 through Epic Games Store. If you love off-roading, this game looks to be a must-buy for you and your buddies.
