The dune community (off-roaders, not Fremen spice miners) is not afraid to spend money on toys, and as a result, we’ve seen more than our share of sand cars with staggering horsepower numbers. This particular example, though, might just take the cake. With an engine built by CBM Motorsports, the Sand Cars Unlimited Pro Bro chassis (don’t blame us – we didn’t name it) will pull wheelstands seemingly at will.
The heart of the build is a Warhawk 454 long block with forged internals, topped by CBM’s own 6-bolt heads and a fabricated intake manifold. Twin Garrett turbochargers kept in check by Turbosmart wastegates provide boost, and at 16 PSI, the car made 1,196 horsepower to the tires at 6,230 RPM, and 1,063 pound-feet of torque at 5,525.
Turned up to 20 pounds, this monster LS made 1,315 horses and 1,144 torques – it’s no surprise that huge rooster tails and sky-high wheelies are instantaneous as soon as the turbos spool.
The outrageous power on tap, combined with the light chassis and long-travel suspension make this sand car look like a bunch of fun to drive, but if you had your choice, would you rather see the big twin turbo Warhawk in some other kind of vehicle? Let us know what you’d drop it into in the comments below!
