In the world of American motor sports no tire is more legendary than those by Mickey Thompson. For years Mickey Thompson has proved itself as a top manufacturer that helps on multiple avenues of off-road racing.
For those that don’t know, the name behind the tire belongs to a great visionary. The late great Mickey Thompson was a larger than life, he was a mechanical artist, a high octane sage and a pioneer of speed. He was a man who was always gazing at the stars, dreaming up his next grand idea that would change the face of hot rodding.
He was an innovator, who can be credited with inventing the dragster around 1954. He pushed the envelope further when he became the first man to reach 400 MPH on land at Bonneville in 1961. Mickey Thompson was also the man who brought the excitement of desert off road racing into stadiums where it can be enjoyed by the masses. He was passionate about motorsports and always made sure that his products were subpar but exceeded the standards of competitive racing.
Mickey Thompson team members, Metal Mulisha founder Brian Deegan, Myan Spaccarelli and Eric Barron, who compete in the Lucas Oil Off Road Racing Series (LOORRS), have been inspired by the legacy of Mickey Thompson which helped them get into off-road racing. Their nostalgic memories of the original Mickey Thompson racing series make what they do today mean so much more.
Team members also talked about how their Mickey Thompson tires have improved their off-road performance in their Pro 2, Pro Buggy and other classes in the series. The drivers wanted to be apart of the team because of the legacy of Mickey Thompson, as well as the advantage the tire gives them.
Before making the transition to short course off-road racing, Brian Deegan was a freestyle motocross pioneer, who helped take freestyle riding from the deserts and into stadiums with his crew Metal Mulisha. Myan Spaccarelli currently races the Tonka Toyota Pro 2 truck along with Eric Barron who races the Tonka Toyota Pro 4 truck. These three veteran racers will show the off-road world what they and Mickey Thompson can do.
