Hidden Gem: Cummins-Powered Comanche At Scheid Diesel Extravaganza

We are fortunate enough to get to go to all sorts of diesel-filled event’s and just a few weeks ago, we went to the biggest show in the country. The Scheid Diesel Extravaganza. The Scheid Diesel Extravaganza brings in literally thousands of people and trucks come to check out all of the competitions as well as an enormous vendor row where everyone showcases their newest and best products for the public to check out and better event pricing.

During our cruise through the vendor row, we came upon a Jeep Comanche truck with some pretty aggressive tires and it triggered some interest. So, we dove in to take another look. We were very surprised, yet excited, to find out that this Comanche is powered by the new engine that we saw from Cummins out at the 2017 SEMA Show just last October. The Cummins R2.8-Liter RePower engine.

One look at this truck and all we could imagine was blazing a trail through the woods somewhere. With this small wheelbase, those beefier than factory tires, a tough suspension, and the torque from this 2.8-Liter Cummins engine, anything is possible.

After speaking with the representatives from Cummins about this engine, it turns out these engines are literally made for that weekend warrior wanting to off-road with something this size or similar. Weighing in at 504 pounds, this 2.8-Liter engine is swap ready for a very competitive price.

The R2.8 Turbo Diesel is the first factory-built crate engine on the market and will tailor to the light-duty enthusiast market. The 2.8-liter four-cylinder engine can be used in small pickups, chassis cabs, SUV’s, vans, commercial vehicles, and industrial equipment and can withstand the harshest of environments. This proven platform is a lightweight, electronically controlled, high-pressure common rail compact package ideal for anyone wanting a small package with a huge punch.

At a glance, we thought this was just a Comanche. Then, we recognized that iconic C emblem and knew this was going to be sick.
