There’s nothing quite like killer incentives to drive sales through the roof, and for GM, “Truck Month” is doing just that. But that’s not even the half of it. As it turns out, this late-year move is causing quite a stir in the pickup truck market, potentially turning the tables in GM’s favor for the rest of the year, as opposed to favoring Ram or Ford, according to Automotive News.
Following GM’s August incentives, which provided zero-percent interest on financed Silverados for 72 months in addition to 90-day deferred payments on all light and heavy-duty Silverados, the company has extended its incentives for September for what they’re calling “Truck Month.”
Incentives available on the Silverado include a $1,500 trade-in assistance bonus, $3,000 to $4,000 cash allowance, $3,000 “Truck Month” discount, and a $750 option package discount. These incentives can be combined to take over $8,000 off trucks like the ’14 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab LT All Star truck and over $9,000 off the ’14 Silverado 1500 4-Door Double Cab LT All Star model. Lease incentives are also spectacular right now, with leases as low as $299 a month for a Silverado Crew Cab All Star truck with $3,000 down.
While GM is amping up their incentives for the year, its competitors are scaling back. Ford in particular is limiting its F-Series incentives currently as they go through the change-over to producing their aluminum-bodied ’15 F-150. In fact, according to Brian Johnson, analyst for Barclays Capital, Ford rolled back incentives last month by over $600 compared to incentives being offered on the F-Series trucks at this time last year.
Now, for the first time this year, GM has out-sold Ford and their F-Series trucks with a combined total of 69,048 trucks sold between the Silverado and Sierra in August. Ford reportedly sold 68,109 F-Series trucks during August, while Ram sold 43,775 trucks.
Due to Ford cutting down on their F-Series incentives, GM’s truck line has a good chance of out-selling their biggest competitor in the truck market for a few more months, or at least until Ford launches their new F-150 in November. Then again, with discounts and incentives as great as Chevy is offering, the company could just out-sell Ford and Ram for the rest of the year, but only time will tell!
