Ford’s One-Off Raptor Auction Benefits Diabetes Research

Ford always leaves a big footprint on the Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. From auctioning off rare production models to giving ride and drives in its current products, the Blue Oval presence is strong in the desert. This year that presence has sharper claws thanks to the auction of a one-of-one Raptor to benefit JDRF, a charity that strives to treat and cure Type 1 diabetes.

The new 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is by far the most off-road-capable vehicle on the market today, boasting some of the best performance technology to come from Ford.—Jim Owens, Ford Performance

“The new 2017 Ford F-150 Raptor is by far the most off-road-capable vehicle on the market today, boasting some of the best performance technology to come from Ford,” Jim Owens, marketing manager, Ford Performance, said. “Raptor serves as a testament to our passion for creating vehicles that are designed to tackle the toughest obstacles on earth. We’re really looking forward to auctioning off our custom creation to help support JDRF.”

What makes this auction really special is that the winner will nab the final Raptor built in the 2017 production run and they will be able to select a unique, one-of-one Raptor paint color. (Imagine tearing up the desert in a one-of-a-kind, Grabber Blue Raptor!)

That’s not all. The winning bidder will need to learn to make the most of a new 450-horsepower, 510 lb-ft Raptor. As such, Ford will announce details of the rebooted Raptor Assault program at the Ford Performance Racing School, where all Raptor owners will receive a complimentary, one-day driving school, which covers rock crawling and off-road driving among other things.

JDRF is extremely grateful for the tremendous support we continue to receive from Ford…—Derek Rapp, JDRF

Of course, the best thing about the auction is its beneficiary. Ford has long supported JDRF and 100 percent of the truck’s proceeds will benefit this charity.

“JDRF is extremely grateful for the tremendous support we continue to receive from Ford and its employees, who share our vision of a world without type 1 diabetes,” JDRF president and CEO, said Derek Rapp said. “Last year, we joined Ford to auction a one-of-a-kind Focus RS at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale, and we are thrilled to come together again as Ford introduces the new Raptor. Funds raised through this auction support JDRF in our mission to accelerate life-changing breakthroughs to cure, prevent and treat Type 1 diabetes and its complications.”

Besides its 450-horsepower EcoBoost 3.5-liter engine, the latest Raptor features a number of cool features, including its 10-speed Ford automatic transmission and exclusive transfer case managed by a six-mode Terrain Management System, which is designed to make the most of that power in any conditions.

“Barrett-Jackson has enjoyed a long and solid relationship with Ford that has raised millions of dollars to benefit charity,” Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO, Barrett-Jackson Auctions, added. “The auction of the highly anticipated Ford Raptor promises to be a highlight of the show—one that will help support a truly great cause. We look forward to our continued relationship with Ford as we work together to support those in need.”

You can watch the auction live on January 20 at 8 p.m. (Scottsdale time) on the Velocity network, where Ford Motor Company president and CEO, Mark Fields; members of the Raptor design and development team; and JDRF executives will be on stage to rev up the bidding.
