An engine is a precisely engineered work of art. Every part has it’s own specific place. Put one out of place and you might be in for a bit of trouble. This is however, easier said than done. If you’ve ever taken one apart and put it back together again, you may also have realized that it can sometimes be difficult to remember where every nut and bolt fastens on your particular engine.
Instead of attempting to remember where every part belonged, Chris Herridge took 3,000 pictures over the course of 11 months of his newly acquired four-cylinder engine tear down.
Each step of the process was documented as to avoid any confusion upon reassembly. He then did the same with reassembly and installation, documenting the whole ordeal. He even shows us a bit of classy paint work added to freshen the bay up a bit.
What exactly did he do with all of these pictures? Well, they were organized into a time-lapse video seen above that showcases all of the work that Chris put in to his project. All of the above takes place in just 2 minutes and 21 seconds and makes it seem effortless. It is truly a feat to observe.
When music is added, the thematic scene just becomes flat out exceptional. When every spring, valve and piston in place we’ve arrived at a viral video with nearly five million hits on YouTube.
A transmission mates, it’s all installed and alas even though he documented the whole experience with his now oil drenched camera, Chris falls victim to the ever dreaded left over parts as the video comes to a close. Better luck next time!
