Removing heat from the airflow of an engine is one of the best ways to add horsepower, especially in a boosted application. C&R Racing has developed an intercooler for the Can-Am Maverick X3 that uses advanced technology to suck out that horsepower-robbing heat from the air that goes into the X3’s engine.
Off-roading in a side by side will expose the engine to some harsh conditions and also generate plenty of heat under extreme use. C&R created their aluminum intercooler to help improve the air temperatures that are fed into the X3’s engine via its R-fin technology. These intercoolers are available in both a billet and standard option that can reduce air temperatures by nearly 40 degrees.
Ben Johnston from C&R covers some of the X3 intercooler details along with what makes it such a great product for those who want extra power out of their side by side.
“This new X3 intercooler is designed to retain the factory mounting, fan, and shroud so the intercooler bolts right into the factory location. These are available right now and are made in the USA. It has a 68mm-thick face, uses our 4.85 R-fin, and has around 15 fins-per-inch. This provides an improved amount of cooling capacity over the stock intercooler. We’ve also been able to tailor both sides of the air charge piping for better fin density and performance,” Johnston says.
