Taking what has been successful in car and truck markets, JMS now has a PedalMAX for UTV owners. Dubbed the PedalMAX Terrain, this device brings new levels of enjoyment to the UTV driving experience with on-the-fly throttle sensitivity adjustment and better controllability for a variety of situations.
We spoke with JMS’s Vice President Brad Grissom to learn more about the PedalMAX Terrain and what it brings to the table. “We got the inspiration from our Vice President of JMS Operations, Brent Fenimore,” said Grissom. “He saw potential for the PedalMAX in the off-road market and UTVs in particular. He noticed that if we applied throttle sensitivity to UTVs and made it possible for drivers to turn the sensitivity both up and down, it would make more sense, since low-speed rock-crawling has just as much fun factor as high-speed desert driving.”
With that mindset, JMS gave the PedalMAX Terrain the ability to modify throttle sensitivity to a wider range than ever before. “This device ranges from 50-percent sensitivity all the way to 400-percent,” said Grissom. “Low sensitivity makes it perfect for inexperienced drivers to get a feel for a UTV’s driving characteristics, or during low-grip situations where taking it easy is required. Higher sensitivity will put some fun back into the driving experience and make the acceleration much more pronounced and noticeable.”
On top of providing UTV owners with more fun behind the wheel, the PedalMAX Terrain is also built to withstand abuse. “Our design makes the PedalMAX Terrain waterproof,” commented Grissom. “The exterior is a rubberized moulded encapsulation. It completely seals out contamination. In addition, the 26-pin connector that plugs into the harness is aircraft-grade. It’s been tested to still work under seven feet of water for seven days before failing. It can also be frozen and heated up and still function. We truly believe in our product, and that’s why we also provide a no-questions-asked lifetime warranty on the PedalMAX Terrain.”
Installing the PedalMAX Terrain is a cinch for anyone. It uses an inline connection to go between the pedal and the wiring harness. “We recommend installing using double-sided tape or zip-ties into the firewall, and far enough away from a heat source that it’ll be safe,” said Grissom. “The control knob can go wherever the driver feels it’s most appropriate. We even made it possible to unplug the knob and save the sensitivity setting if the driver wants.”

The PedalMAX Terrain works on several makes of side-by-sides on the market today. “The Terrain will work with any UTV that uses a drive-by-wire throttle,” said Grissom. “That includes 2013 and newer Can-Am and Polaris models, as well as 2017 and newer Arctic Cat models.”
If you’re a UTV owner and you’ve wanted more out of it, JMS’s PedalMAX Terrain will take you to the next level. It’s easy to install, durable, and makes a world of difference in the driving experience. For more information, be sure to check out JMS’s website, and don’t forget to follow them on Facebook.
