2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2 / GMC Canyon AT4X
For those interested in a really good midsize truck with rugged off-road ability, the 2025 Chevrolet Colorado ZR2, or its GMC Canyon AT4X cousin, are solid choices. These trucks come fit with a 3.5-inch-wider track width and 3.0-inch-taller ride height than the base trims. The added altitude is needed to fit the 33-inch Goodyear Wrangler Territory MT tires. The trucks’ suspension features 9.9 inches of front wheel travel with 11.6 inches in the rear. Multimatic DSSV dampers set the Colorado ZR2 and Canyon AT4X apart from the rest of the midsize class. 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 ZR2 / GMC Sierra AT4X
Launched in 2022, the Chevy Silverado 1500 ZR2 and GMC Sierra 1500 AT4X are largely unchanged for the 2025 model year. Similar to the Colorado and Canyon, the Silverado ZR2 and Sierra AT4X come fit with Multimatic DSSV dampers, rock sliders, front and rear electronic locking differentials, and drive modes tailored for off-road fun. 2025 Chevrolet Silverado 2500 ZR2 / GMC Sierra 2500 AT4X
In 2024 GM added the Silverado 2500HD ZR2 and Sierra 2500HD AT4X to its hardcore off-road lineup. Building on a ¾-ton crew cab, the HD ZR2 and AT4X can be had with either the company’s 6.6-liter gasoline V8 or the 6.6-liter Duramax diesel V8 engine. The suspension receives a 1.5-inch boost to accommodate 35-inch tires. A matching full-size spare is fit under the bed. The front suspension sports unique upper and lower control arms and steering knuckles. Damping is handled by you guessed it, Multimatic DSSV spool-valve dampers. An electronic locking rear differential can be used at any speed. And there are copious underbody skid plates protecting the trucks’ vital components.

2025 Chevrolet ZR2 Bison / GMC AT4X AEV Edition

2025 GMC Hummer EV
Unsurprisingly, the 2025 GMC Hummer EV comes with an off-road pedigree worthy of its namesake. When selecting the Extreme Off-Road Package, the Hummer EV comes fit with locking front and rear differentials (the rear is “virtual”), rugged skid plates, and 35-inch all-terrain tires (with room for 37’s). Thanks to the electric pickup’s innovative rear steering, it also manages its way down tight and windy trails that otherwise would be impossible for a vehicle of its stature to pass through. Of course, having 1,000 horsepower on tap doesn’t hurt, either.

2025 Ford Maverick Tremor
Ford debuted the off-road-focused Maverick Tremor in 2023, and it returns to the lineup along with a refreshed 2025 model. The Maverick Tremor comes powered by a 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine and is fit with all-wheel-drive. An off-road-tuned suspension gains 0.8 inches of ride height with all-terrain tires stuffed in the wheel wells. Front skid plates, a twin-clutch rear drive unit with locking ability, off-road drive modes, and Trail Control round out the hardware package, while unique interior and exterior trim tells the world it’s a Tremor.

2025 Ford Ranger Raptor
Ford Raptor enthusiasts have spent years clamoring for a midsize version of the company’s legendary off-road racer. In 2024 the company finally delivered.
The Ranger Raptor is powered by a modified Bronco Raptor 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged EcoBoost V-6 engine. The Ranger version puts out 405 hp and 430 lb-ft. The pickup also uses a modified Bronco Raptor transfer case and front locking differential, plus the same locking rear differential. It boasts 10.7 inches of ground clearance plus an additional 1.4 and 2.7 inches of suspension travel front and rear making for 10.0 inches total in front and 11.5 inches in the rear. New upper and lower aluminum front control arms add 3.5 inches to the front track and the upper shock mount is revised. The rear suspension gets the F-150 Raptor treatment, ditching the leaf springs for radius arms.
Further aiding the cause are a set of BFGoodrich’s new 33-inch All-Terrain T/A KO3 tires, a live rear axle with Watts linkage, 2.5-inch Fox Live Valve Internal Bypass electronically controlled shocks all around including front coilovers, and steel skidplates.

2025 Ford F-150 Raptor
Now 15 years old, the Ford F-150 Raptor is more popular than it has ever been. The OG Raptor offers 14.0 inches of front suspension travel and 15.0 inches of rear suspension travel. This rugged Ford pickup truck also features a wide, aggressive stance, and it’s packed with the latest off-road technology. The Raptor 37 is equipped with 37-inch BFGoodrich tires. Suspension travel for Raptor 37 and Raptor R stands at 13.0 inches in the front and 14.1 inches in the rear. The Raptor’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 pushes 450 horsepower and 510 lb-ft of torque. Raptor R’s supercharged 5.2-liter V-8 engine now packs a bit more punch, delivering 720 hp and 640 lb-ft of torque.

2025 Ford F-150 Tremor
The Ford F-150 Tremor package, which is also available for the F-250 and F-350 Super Duty along with Maverick, takes off-road ability up a notch without getting into Raptor territory. For 2025, the F-150 Tremor is powered by a standard 5.0-liter V8 engine while the 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 is now optional. The F-150 Tremor remains Crew Cab with only a short bed. The F-150 Tremor comes with 33-inch General Grabber A/T tires wrapped around unique 18-inch wheels (which widen the track width by 1.0 inch), custom front springs that add a little lift, and custom front monotube shocks and rear twin-tube shocks. The Ford F-150 Tremor also features an optional Torsen front limited-slip differential, standard electronic locking rear differential, an optional torque-on-demand transfer case, Raptor-style bash plates, and Raptor-style solid aluminum side steps.

2025 Jeep Gladiator Mojave X
The Jeep Gladiator Mojave features a desert-tuned suspension with 2.5-inch Fox internal bypass dampers and front pneumatic bump stops. 2025 Jeep Gladiator Rubicon X
For 2025 the Jeep Gladiator Rubicon’s lone remaining engine option is the well-worn 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, which is backed only by an 8-speed automatic transmission. Gladiator Rubicon is equipped with front and rear electronic locking differentials, a front electronic disconnecting anti-sway bar, and 4.0:1 low-range gear in its transfercase along with meaty 33-inch off-road tires. The new Rubicon X adds standard Nappa leather (currently $1,995), an Off-Road+ drive mode (to better tailor throttle and transmission shift strategies for sand and rocks and enable rear differential locking in 4Hi mode), plus a load of otherwise optional gear.

2025 Ram Heavy Duty Rebel

2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro
The 2025 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro features a host of hardware dedicated to high-speed desert off-roading. These include 2.5-inch Fox Racing QS3 internal bypass shocks, which at the rear have remote reservoirs. The Tacoma TRD Pro also includes an electronically disconnecting front anti-roll bar. At the rear are Fox internal floating piston hydraulic bump stops.
Powering the 2025 Tacoma TRD Pro is the company’s new iForce Max hybrid powertrain, which pairs Toyota’s 2.4-liter turbo four-cylinder engine with a 48-hp electric motor attached to the bellhousing of the truck’s eight-speed automatic transmission. Combined power output is 326 hp and 465 lb-ft torque. In addition, the TRD Pro features a two-speed transfer case and an electronically locking rear differential.

The 2025 Toyota Tundra TRD Pro is truly one of the best off road trucks of its generation.
