The midsize Nissan Frontier pickup truck is getting what the manufacturer says is a “rugged” refresh for the 2025 model year. This includes increased maximum tow ratings, a new front fascia, new wheels for the PRO-X and PRO-4X models, and more. So, let’s dig into what’s new on the 2025 Nissan Frontier.
Follow-Up To The Frontier’s 2022 Redesign
You’ll recall that the Frontier was basically unchanged from 2005 through the 2021 model year. For the 2022 model year, Nissan rolled out the all-new, third-generation Frontier. It retained the basic size of its predecessor, and it was fitted with a naturally aspirated 310 horsepower direct-injection V6 engine with nine-speed automatic transmission. This engine/transmission combo debuted in the 2020 Nissan Frontier. For 2025, that engine and transmission duo is retained. Four-wheel-drive Frontiers have a two-speed transfer case with 2.717:1 low range ratio. Nissan says this gives the Frontier a maximum crawl ratio of 54.42:1.
For us off-road fans, Nissan offers the Frontier in PRO-4X trim. The PRO-4X includes a rear differential locker, Bilstein shocks, 17-inch wheels, all-terrain tires, and additional skidplating.
What’s New On The Frontier’s Exterior?
So, what’s new on the 2025 Nissan Frontier? Well, the exterior has a revised front fascia, grille, and bumper design. To us, looking at the Frontier PRO-4X photos provided at the time of publication, the most obvious change is the removal of the Frontier badging along the top of the grille. It’s replaced by a trio of sculpted visual elements that resemble air intakes. There’s also a new tailgate finisher for the two-wheel-drive PRO-X and four-wheel-drive PRO-4X models. And speaking of the PRO packages, they get a new wheel design. Compared to the previous standard PRO wheels, the new 17-inch wheels eschew all polished aluminum for a painted surface. The new wheels look good, though we wonder how much water pressure it’ll take to coerce dirt and mud out of the slats that encircle the outer edge of the wheel.
Expanded Availability Of 6-Foot Bed, Increased Tow Ratings
Also new for the 2025 model year, the crew cab long-wheelbase configuration with 6-foot bed has been expanded from SV to SV, PRO-4X and SL grades. This increase in bed size will be welcome by those looking to carry larger loads. And on the topic of loads, Nissan has bumped up the maximum tow ratings of the Frontier. The company says that they’re now up to 7,150 pounds (SV grade, 2WD, King Cab). For the crew cab, short wheelbase, PRO-4X model, the 2025 Frontier offers a max towing capacity of 6,680 pounds versus the 2024 model’s 6,170 pounds. Maximum tongue load also increases from 617 pounds to 668 pounds. Finally, if you’re into bright paint, there’s a new color called Afterburn Orange in Frontier’s palette of available color choices.
Interior Upgrades
Inside the 2025 Nissan Frontier are several upgrades. A telescoping steering wheel is standard, and a four-way power passenger seat is standard on PRO-X, PRO-4X, and SL grades. Two-way power lumbar for the six-way power driver seat is now standard on SV grades and higher. Furthermore, there’s a larger 12.3-inch touchscreen, and the Intelligent Around View Monitor with Enhanced Off-Road View camera now works at speeds of up to 12 mph. This allows the system to help drivers spot obstacles at typical off-road speeds in technical terrain.
Availability And Pricing Will Be Released Soon
Nissan says the refreshed 2025 Frontier will arrive at dealerships later this summer. Pricing is said to be announced closer to the on-sale date.
