It is that time of year again, where the next model year vehicles are starting to be debuted. Toyota has had a stronghold for 13 years in the mid-size pickup market with the Tacoma, and they are determined to not let it go.

Available in 32 different configurations, the 2020 Tacoma has six-model grades including work-ready SR; high-style, high-value SR5; athletic TRD Sport; adventurous TRD Off-Road; ultimate off-road TRD Pro; and top-of-the-line Limited. Toyota states they are offering a model “for all seasons and reasons.”

The grille design on most models is custom-tailored to the specific model grade and all 2020 Tacomas receive a new taillight design. Also standard on all 2020 Tacomas is the Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P) system. The TSS-P includes Pre-Collision System with Pedestrian Detection, High-Speed Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC), Lane Departure Alert and Automatic High Beams.

The TRD models got a lot of attention for the new model year. The TRD Sport now comes with a new grille, 17-inch wheels, LED fog lamps, and optional LED headlights. The TRD Sport also receives the larger eight-inch touchscreen and 10-way power-adjustable driver’s seat.

The TRD Off-road gets many of the same and more upgrades. LED fog lamps, LED headlight option, new grille plus the addition of passenger Smart Key, a system that allows unlocking the doors and starting the engine without ever having the pull the key from your pocket. Double Cab Off-road models also receive Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM) for improved visibility of the terrain around the truck. Also included is the updated multimedia with eight-inch touchscreen and power-adjustable driver’s seat.

TRD Pro models get Rigid Industries LED fog lights, new grille design, black insets in tail lights, and new exterior colors. 2020 Tacoma TRD Pros get more sets of eyes with the new Panoramic View Monitor (PVM) and the  Multi-Terrain Monitor (MTM). The driver can select from a nearly 360-degree view of the terrain. The system also includes a five-second front undercarriage video playback option that can help the driver through unseen obstacles.
