The time has come for the 2016 Best in the Desert (BITD) season to kick off in Parker, Arizona with a new starting format. The race happening February 4th to the 7th will have two days full of racing near the BlueWater Resort and Casino.
The first day of racing will include classes 1000, 1100, 1200, 1700,1800, 2000, 2400, 3000, 3700, 6000 and 8100 with the second day hosting the Trick Truck class, along with classes 1500, 6100, 7200 and 8000.  The winner of the Time Trials will get the solo green flag start at 1:30 pm. The rest of the field will start one at a time at 30-second intervals following that. All of these racers will compete for three laps with no Gran Prix Finish.
This change in the traditional starting order of years past was brought about as a result of BITD’s continued focus on improving safe conditions for all competitors. The move to a staggered two-start format helps separate classes of race vehicles based on average speed differentials. This greatly reduces the chances of the faster classes of race cars and trucks from potentially coming up on the slower class vehicles at a higher speed in dusty conditions and possible on-course altercations.
Impact will be giving out a FHR device out to the winning driver and co-driver of everything class. Stay tuned to Off Road Xtreme as we will be bringing back highlights from all the action out in the desert. Who do you think will take this year’s crown? Tell us in the comments below!
