LS engine swaps are all the rage right now. However, some swaps result in a slightly different position for the engine compared to stock. Often, this relocation is done to accommodate the front accessory-drive clearance or perhaps to create header clearance.
Several companies make LS engine mounts that relocate the engine either forward or back from the original location. Unfortunately, this also changes the location of the transmission mount. The solution in the past was to make a custom crossmember or to modify the existing unit, but this usually entailed welding. But there’s an easier solution. Summit Racing recently introduced an adjustable GM transmission mount that offers 2 ½ inches of adjustability. Frankly, this is one of those solutions that you look at and say – “Why didn’t I think of that?”
The mount bolts directly to the common GM spacing for manual and automatic transmissions like the Muncie, Super T-10, TREMEC TKO and new TKX, plus all the common GM automatics from the TH350 all the way up to the 4L80E. This is available under P/N: SUM-773200.
For Ford fans, there’s also a Fox-body-Mustang adjustable trans mount that uses the dual stud pattern with 2 1/4-inch spacing and is listed under P/N: SUM-770596. Either way, this makes for a great solution to a long-standing problem.
