Shock absorbers are a key component of your Jeep JL’s suspension. Thus, it’s important to have a quality set under your rig. Bonus points if the dampers have vehicle-specific tuning. Enter the Bilstein B8 8100 shocks. These remote-reservoir shocks are high quality, custom tuned, and have a wealth of other features and benefits.
Bilstein B8 8100 Shock Construction
The Bilstein B8 8100 monotube shocks are constructed from quality billet components that are aerospace quality. They have a large 60mm ID body paired with either a 60mm remote or piggyback reservoir, depending on application. One of the benefits of the 8100’s reservoir is that it offers a larger volume of oil, which helps to control heat while off-roading on rough roads for a lengthy amount of time. Lowering the heat level decreases shock fade, thus retaining shock performance. Furthermore, the large remote reservoir houses the gas chamber. This opens up the shock body for more wheel travel.
Bilstein’s nitrogen-infused 60mm monotube design has a floating dividing piston that separates the gas and oil. This provides consistent, fade-free performance. Additionally, benefits of the 8100s large bore digressive piston include a greater range of tunability and consistent ride comfort without sacrificing control. The shock’s 18mm-diameter piston rod offers stout tensile strength, and it decreases internal gas force ramp-up to produce a smoother ride.
Direct Fit And Vehicle-Specific Tuning
The Bilstein B8 8100 is a direct fit design, so installation is easy. In fact, the 8100 has a billet rod end with vulcanized mounts for an exact OE fit and long-term durability. The shock has vehicle-specific tuning to ensure the best ride and handling experience. Other features include a billet reservoir mount included with each damper and the shock is owner rebuildable and revalvable.
Available For A Variety of Jeep Wranglers
Bilstein’s B8 8100 shocks are available for a variety of Jeep Wrangler JLs, including those with suspension lifts. For example, let’s look at the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Sport with either the V6 or I4 engine. For this application Bilstein offers the 8100 for vehicles with 2 to 3 inches or 3 to 4.5 inches of lift.
If you’re a more aggressive off-roader, the 8100 is also available in a bypass version. The race-inspired bypass shock is also a direct fit, position sensitive, and has bypass adjusters that allow for finite and incremental changes to rebound and compression.
Of course, we’d be remiss if we didn’t note that Bilstein’s B8 8100 shocks are available for a number of other makes and models of 4x4s. To see if there’s an 8100 shock for your rig, head to Bilstein’s website.
