Currie’s Bolt-In Jeep Portal Axle Package Is A Game Changer

For years, building a truly capable Jeep has been a game of compromises. A massive suspension lift for clearing obstacles usually means terrible road manners, while beefy axles often sacrifice precious ground clearance. Currie Enterprises just threw that rulebook out the window. After a year of development, Casey Currie and his team have released a Jeep Portal Axle Package that offers a radical solution.

The Ground Clearance Cheat Code

The secret is the set of 74Weld portal hubs. In simple terms, these are gearboxes mounted at the end of the axles that move the wheel’s centerline down. This gives the Jeep an instant 3-3/4 inches of lift right where it matters most: under the axle housings. “When you drive over that rock, you got a lot more clearance,” Casey Currie explained. But unlike a traditional lift, this system keeps the suspension arms at stock angles. “It’s all stock location stuff because there’s no lift,” he said.

Strength Without the Compromises

The front axle is a heavy-duty Currie 44 housing, but it’s loaded with 35-spline components and one-ton strength outers. “It’s basically one ton axle strength on a 44 front end,” Currie stated. The rear is a robust Currie 60. The 74 Weld portals are the same incredibly strong four-gear units that Currie trusts in his professional race trucks. “The four gear portal is the same portals that we run in our off-road race trucks with over a thousand horsepower,” he confirmed. The package combines 4.10 gears and a 1.22:1 portal reduction for a trail-ready 5.0:1 final drive ratio.

Dialing In The Details

The steering geometry remains stock, so there’s no need for custom fabrication; a simple bolt-on steering kit like the one from RockJock fits perfectly. The package converts the Jeep to a heavy-duty eight-on-6.5-inch bolt pattern, and Currie recommends a wheel with 6.5 inches of backspacing to keep the track width tidy. Even the driveshaft connections are straightforward, using a companion flange up front and a standard 1350 yoke in the rear, which works with many aftermarket driveshafts.

Jeep Portal Axle Package: A Game Changer

This is not a universal kit that requires a ton of fabrication. Currie designed this as a fully engineered system that bolts directly into Jeep JK, JL, and JT models. For Jeep owners who want the absolute best of both worlds—maximum ground clearance for the trail and stable geometry for the street—the Currie Jeep Portal Axle Package represents a new top tier of performance.
