Westen Champlin is plotting something, and it’s gonna be a definite crowd-pleaser. The Kansas native is an up-and-coming YouTuber, with over one million subscribers and a steady posting schedule since his start in February 2019. His content revolves around various wrecked vehicles he buys, modifies, and adds to his stable of fun-havers. His most recent purchase was a Dodge Challenger Hellcat.
“I’ve had the awesome idea to build an off-roading, four-wheel-drive Hellcat,” he says. “It’s similar to the [Charger] seen in Fast and Furious.” Naturally, to build an off-road Hellcat, one must first own a Hellcat. So Westen has his work cut out for him to find one, and find one he does.
His search takes him to Ohio, where he meets the owner and checks out the Challenger firsthand. The price on this one fits the budget for Westen, but only because of its busted transmission. “It grinds if it’s in anything else besides fourth,” comments Westen. “Even neutral. It’s weird.”
Thankfully, the car still has a working fourth gear, which is its 1:1 direct drive gear. The only issues is loading the thing onto a trailer, as the car’s ground clearance versus the standard ramps is no good. Thus, Westen and his friends do what must be done and use wooden planks, cinder blocks, and 2x4s to get the darn thing loaded up.
With that, Westen and friends get the Hellcat on its way back to Kansas. All it took was driving 2,000 miles in three days in an RV across icy roads, and a little jaunt to Home Depot. We’re looking forward to the next chapter on the Hellcat!
