Well folks, Super Bowl XLIV is in the books and if you are a Patriots fan, you are celebrating, but if you are a Seahawks fan, you are icing your wounds. Regardless of which team you were pulling for, one thing is for sure – there is a large portion of the population that watches the Super Bowl simply for the commercials.
While this might be a strange thought in the age of DVRs where we can fast forward through commercials, it gives companies an opportunity to create special ads that will be targeted towards an attentive audience – which is becoming harder and harder to do in today’s advertising world.
With many automakers showing off their best efforts yesterday, Jeep decided to throw their hat in the ring to promote thier newest addition, the Jeep Renegade. Titled “Beautiful Lands,” Jeep’s commercial consisted of a slow n’ steady montage of beautiful global scenery combined with tidbits of their Jeep Renegade going through various terrain – all to the tunes of Marc Scibilia singing “This Land is Your Land.”
After watching the commercial however, you have to ask yourself, is this a good representation of the Jeep lifestyle? Especially considering the very slow and emotional tone of this commercial (and all the Super Bowl XLIV commercials for that matter) which is in stark contrast to the typical “it’s a Jeep thing” mentality of having a blast on the trail with your buddies – it just seemed a little out of place.
Granted, the Jeep Renegade is targeted at a different audience than say a Wrangler, but even so, it seemed a bit out of place. What do you think about the commercial above? Let us know in the comments section below!
