Video: Installing AlphaRex Headlights in 2011-16 Ford Super Duty

Ford’s Super Duty trucks are among the most rugged and useful vehicles on the planet, but they’re not perfect. Parts may become less effective over time, especially the headlights. If your Super Duty is eight or nine years old, you may start to see yellowing and cloudiness in the headlight covers, which can reduce their effectiveness and look gross.

If this has happened to you, AlphaRex has you covered with its projector headlight upgrades for 2011-2016 Ford Super Duty trucks. The company has several how-to videos, explaining the best way to install the new headlights, so let’s look at some of the work involved.

You’ll need to disconnect the battery terminals to ensure everything is off. Then, remove the four 10mm bolts from the top of your truck’s grille. Moving to the bottom of the grille, use a screwdriver to depress the three retainer clips and remove them. Remove the plastic clips on the upper corner of the light. You can now unfasten and remove the grille.

Next, remove the 10mm bolts on the top and bottom of the headlight housing. Now, you can pull out the headlight and start removing the lights’ wiring harnesses from the rear of the unit. Once the lights are unplugged, unscrew and remove the light assemblies from the headlight housing.

Connect the side marker bulb to the black connector on your new AlphaRex headlight unit. Reinstall the side marker bulb into the AlphaRex headlight unit. Insert the factory turn signal socket into the new headlight unit. Now, route the daytime running light (DRL) wiring harness to the new headlights, starting on the driver’s side closest to the truck’s battery.

Crimp the grey wire from the DRL to the fuse tap and tap into fuse #50.  Connect the red wire to the battery positive terminal and the black wire to the battery negative terminal. If your truck is a Power Stroke Diesel model, attach the DRL harness to the battery closest to the fuse box.

Once the DRL and battery connections are done, you can reconnect all of the wiring harnesses to their respective light sockets in the new headlight unit. Reverse the steps we outlined earlier to reinstall the headlight assembly into the truck. Repeat the process on the other side of the truck to install the other headlight.

AlphaRex recommends using a large flat surface, such as a garage wall, to align your new headlights. Park 25 feet away from the wall and use the adjustment points on the headlight units to level them. Turning the adjustment screw clockwise will lower the headlights, while counter-clockwise will raise them.

Taking your truck’s headlights from worn-out to brightly lit is just one job away. If you’re on board, then go check out more information on the AlphaRex website and Facebook page.
