Let’s face it, when it comes to our trucks, we all want the latest and greatest parts when sourcing products for our build. However, we also need to keep in mind, these are diesel trucks, and as such, are designed to work — not just drive around mall parking lots with the wheel-ring lights glowing. I was looking at ways to strengthen truck axles the other day and I came across Moser Engineering’s 4340, Thru-Hardened axles.
At first, I thought these truck axles were meant solely for sled-pulling trucks. However, after speaking with Shane St. Myers at Moser, I learned that Moser has outfitted more than a few trucks that pull heavy trailers with these axles. The axle shafts start life as 4340 through-hardened bar stock and utilize a standard 40-spline outer end that mates to their chromoly drive flanges.
By using these on your truck, you can have confidence in handling almost any amount of power you’re making. You can buy these truck axles as a pair, and you can also buy the complete hub kit (PT4210) by selecting the desired hub kit for whichever fits your specifications. Note that the maximum shaft length is 40.5 inches long.
When you’re ready to place an order, go to the website and find out what options are available to you. These axles are available for a Dana 60, 70, or 80, AAM, or 14-bolt rear ends. If you really have a one-off combination, you can check the “other” option which means customization may be necessary. You’ll need to know the spline count, depending on what your center section calls for, as these axles are available in 30, 35, 37, 38, and 40-spline.
