At 17 years old, many of us hadn’t even figured out what we wanted to be when we grew up, let alone started a career that had everyone watching us closely. But then again, none of us were Brandon Arthur, the young up-and-coming off-road racer who has everyone in the off-road community on high alert. But it wasn’t Arthur’s young age or even his amazing driving skills that had everyone talking. Rather, it was his high-speed crash with co-driver Brian Busby at the M.O.R.E./S.N.O.R.E Chili Cook-off Race in Lucerne Valley, California, September 7-8, 2013. We received this report, and video from the on-board GoPro cameras mounted in various locations throughout the truck, thanks to Bink Designs.
Driving his Pro Traffic Services/Competitive Metals/Rigid Industries Trophy Truck, Arthur was doing very well in Saturday’s race, passing five other competitors in a mere 30 miles and settling in at a comfortable 100+mph groove. But as everyone knows, it only takes an instant for something to go wrong and that’s exactly what happened when Arthur felt that the steering wheel was off center. With a glitch in the steering, Arthur let off the gas and yelled to Busby “We’re broke, we’re broke.” Only slowing down a few miles per hour the truck made a hard left turn, causing Arthur and Busby to flip over at over 100mph.

As you can see in the video supplied by above, the crash was a rough one, causing spectators to rush to Arthur and Busby’s aid. Fortunately, both men walked away from the crash, suffering only minor injuries, including burst blood vessels in their eyes because of the g-forces, compared to what could have happened.
The truck, unfortunately wasn’t as lucky. Although Arthur stated that the cab seemed to be in okay shape in a recent press release, he also noted that the front end of the truck was severely bent. Luckily, Arthur and his team have been working on a new Trophy Truck chassis, which combines all the latest advances, that the old truck will now be upgraded to.
Revising the Trophy Truck isn’t all that’s on Arthur’s plate these days either. Currently, he’s working on building a Prolite truck and honing his fabrication skills while still juggling high school. Now if that’s not over achieving, we don’t know what is. And to top it off, in 2014, Arthur will be racing a number of desert races in his Trophy Truck as well as joining the ranks of the Prolite class in the Lucus Oil Off Road Racing Series. The best of luck goes out to Arthur and his team!
