Let’s face it. Most of us don’t like to be like everyone else. We take a good truck and add our touch. Whether we are modifying the exterior, interior or powertrain, we seem to always find a way to make it ours. Unfortunately for many of us, we don’t always have the equipment necessary to really do what we want. So, we have to either pay someone to make it for us (assuming you can afford that) or go without what we want.
Well, recently Airaid made it a little easier to build custom intakes with their U-Build-It (UBI) kits. The kits are designed with two 90 degree bends, one 60, 45 and 30 degree bend. Then there are a bunch of different length straight pieces. Now I know what you are thinking, the picture shows all of this as one big tube. So, you are going to have to cut the pipe apart and then you are left with tubing and elbows just like if you bought random elbows and what not at the local performance shop.
That isn’t the case. You do need to cut and lay everything out. But the sections are designed with specific lengths and cut lines. In between each cut line is a raised ridge. These ridges are to hold the silicon boots on (with a clamp, of course). This is what makes this system so well thought out. Not only do have they look of the majority of custom installs and included enough parts for most applications, but they added hose ridges to each section and made this kit as user friendly as possible.
These kits come in a variety of different diameters, ranging from 3 inches all the way to 6 inches for you big compound guys. We (Power Automedia) caught up with the guys at Airaid while at the SEMA Show this year. See what they had to say.
