Dan Millen and Livernois Motorsports are no strangers to big power. They have been working to get the most out of the latest offerings from the performance world for years. In this video, they take a stock Ford 7.3-liter “Godzilla” motor and put it through its paces to see how much it can be improved.
Millen stated, “We’re pretty excited about it. We’ve gotten some good gains out of it.” This motor replaces the single overhead cam 6.2-liter motor. The new Ford unit is a pushrod motor and is pretty impressive right from the factory. The Godzilla pushes out an increase of 45 horsepower and 45 pound-feet compared to the outgoing Boss motor. Millen explained, “It’s already a better engine and should be more fuel efficient, just as reliable, and have less moving parts. Like always, Ford crushes the competition. They are number one in trucks for a reason.”
Livernois ran a baseline pull and then followed it up with their custom tune on 87 octane gas. Power increases included 9 horsepower and 30 pound-feet of torque peak to peak. When checking the graph, the middle numbers are where the big gains occurred. An increase of 30 horsepower and 40 pound-feet can be found there. On the 93 octane tune, there is an increase of 21 horsepower and 60 pound-feet of torque peak to peak. Millen remarked, “That’s something you’re really going to feel. The really big story here is what it did in the middle. It picked up 45 horsepower in the middle on 93 octane.” Stay tuned to Livernois Motorsports’ Facebook as they continue to develop additional towing tunes as well as Flex Fuel tunes for this beast.
