In the world of aftermarket parts, it’s easy to focus on certain types of products while completely ignoring others. These parts don’t always fit into the traditional realm of performance upgrades. Regardless, they may still provide a great improvement. One such product is the Edge AMP’d Throttle Booster. This device doesn’t add more overall power to your vehicle. However, it changes the mapping of your throttle pedal to provide a better driving experience. Just ask Todd Slater, whose 2017 Chevy 2500HD made its way to our shop to test out the device.

The AMP’d Throttle Booster is a small unit that delivers a large impact. It allows the driver to fine-tune throttle feel and acceleration. Each unit includes the small control box and simple wiring harness.
When evaluating a new product, one question always comes to mind: How will this new component improve or fix our truck? Diesel trucks typically have a small amount of turbo lag, especially during hard acceleration. Also, some trucks tend to require a little more throttle than expected just to get going. Todd’s Chevy was no exception. It required more throttle than typical to get moving. It also had a significant amount of turbo lag during quick acceleration. Todd said, “It takes a lot of throttle to get this truck moving, from a dead stop and also when passing or getting on the freeway.”
The Installation

The AMP’d Throttle Booster includes very detailed instructions. This makes the installation simple and quick.
With the factory feel of the truck evaluated, it was time to install the AMP’d Throttle Booster. Installation was very simple. We disconnected the battery and unplugged the throttle position sensor. The AMP’d Throttle Booster easily plugged in between. Todd’s throttle booster came with two sensitivity adjustments inside the unit. Calibrating the throttle booster was a simple procedure done before we started the engine. Just a few complete cycles of the throttle pedal was all that was needed to calibrate the throttle booster.

The AMP’d Throttle Booster is available in two versions. One version offers a control knob for fine adjustments. The other has two sensitivity settings inside the housing. The housing is easily removable.
With the install completed, Todd took the truck for a test drive. The AMP’d Throttle Booster had a few intermittent slow throttle symptoms before quickly learning a smooth curve. Todd said, “At first I noticed a dead throttle or noticeable lag during acceleration. This quickly went away and the throttle noticeably improved.” With the initial results in, we decided to let Todd drive his truck for a while. This allowed us to get a thorough evaluation of his new throttle booster in various driving conditions.
The Results
Todd drove for some time and reported back with positive results. Acceleration was smoother and it took less throttle to get the truck moving. Todd explained, “I only have a few hours towing with it. I noticed it seems to take less throttle to get the truck going, and that helps a lot with making a pass at speed or going up the on-ramp. It allows for smooth acceleration no matter how hard I get on the throttle; this wasn’t the case before it was installed.”

The AMP’d Throttle Booster shell can be placed back on once the calibrations are complete. We used zip ties to mount it under the dash, away from our feet and other potential hazards.
It’s easy to see why the AMP’d Throttle Booster offers a big improvement over factory throttle settings. Smoother acceleration is always a great addition, especially in a truck with turbo lag. Users can fine-tune their preferred sensitivity level for their driving style. This would be a great addition to most stock trucks.
