The GM boys have the LS, the Ford guys have the Coyote, Toyota fans have the 2JZ, and so on. Jeep enthusiasts, of course, know where this is going: the AMC 4.0-liter straight-six, a fan favorite stretching several decades. Over the years, they found their way into several of the Jeep heavyweights: Cherokees, Wranglers, and Grand Cherokees, just to name a few.
But as with all engines, the 4.0-liter straight-sixes can get long in the tooth and lose power over time, or leave owners wanting more. Fortunately, COMP Cams is proud to announce new Xtreme 4×4 hydraulic camshafts ready to swap in and bump up the power. These cams will be right at home in most 4.0-liter engines, ranging from 1964 to 1998, and benefit both casual owners and hardcore off-road enthusiasts.
When you visit COMP Cams’ website and find the camshaft options for sale, you’ll find there are currently three distinct Xtreme 4×4 camshafts: 197/201, 205/213, and 209/213. The 197/201 cam is designed to work with the stock head and EFI, while the 205/213 and 209/213 are designed for EFI and carbureted applications with aftermarket aluminum heads, respectively. The camshafts allow for longer duration and greater valve lift, while still operating within the boundaries of the 4,0-liter’s design.
What you get will depend on what your budget is and what you’re looking for in a camshaft. If you need it, the experts at COMP are ready to help out. Go check out more information by visiting COMP’s website, and don’t forget to check them out on Facebook, too.
