A few months ago, we installed a set of Bestop’s radical core doors on a Jeep Wrangler JK. At the time, it was the tail end of summer, and here in Southern California, the high temperatures can really get to you, so having more airflow in a Jeep was fun and practical.
Now, we’re in the middle of winter. Granted, we aren’t dealing with snowdrifts and blizzards like in the Midwest or East Coast, but we’ve been getting some rain. Plus, the lower temperatures are making us long for that long-ago summertime heat. How has this shift in seasons affected the Jeep owner and his thoughts on the core doors? We reached out to him to find out.
The Jeep owner, Carlos Hernandez, gave us the details. “The doors are an amazing product, but they have their ups and downs,” he said.

Carlos, the Jeep owner, enjoys the core doors. He likes the high quality of the material, and his Jeep’s appearance gets a lot of attention out on the trail.
On the positive side, he noted the quality of the material and their usefulness for weekend getaways. “The core doors’ material is very durable,” he commented. “The doors are easy to clean as well. I can take the windows off when I want to go out in the desert or mountains and let the air come in. They’re not a big hassle to deconstruct, and they look just as good as the first day they were installed.”
“I think it’s the perfect add-on for the weekend warrior,” he continued. “You bought a Jeep, don’t get afraid to let a little dirt inside. It’s worth it for the experience of driving around in the wilderness.”

Carlos recommends the core doors to anyone who loves their Jeep. The looks and utility make them a fun upgrade for these four-wheelers.
On the other hand, however, Carlos had some issues. “I wouldn’t run these doors when it’s raining,” he said. “I have before, and the seal is not as good as it could be. Water gets inside, so I’ve had to switch back to the factory doors when the weather report says rain is in the forecast.”
“Another problem I have is when driving around, it’s hard to get the window to seal completely,” he said. “It’s just hard to get it to close properly.”

We asked Carlos if he would recommend the Bestop core doors to fellow Jeep owners. “Definitely,” he said. “I think these core doors are a great product. I’ve seen some other designs and they can’t compare. Bestop’s material is more refined, the appearance is sharper, and the functionality is far better. The price point is excellent, too.”
