The heat generated under the hood of a high-performance vehicle is the number one culprit for damaging wiring and electronics, but it can also put a hurt on a battery. Not everyone relocates their battery to the trunk, and since high-quality batteries aren’t cheap you need to protect your investment. Design Engineering Inc. (DEI) has a solution for this heat-related battery problem with its Cell Saver battery heat shield.
DEI is known for its innovative heat shielding products that protect wiring and hoses from elevated temperatures, so it was a no-brainer for them to come up with something to keep a battery safe. The Cell Saver’s insulation material will resist radiant heat up to 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. Besides keeping heat away from your battery, the Cell Saver will protect the rest of your engine from a battery failure. The Cell Saver will trap and neutralize any battery acid that might leak from your battery if it becomes damaged.
When DEI designed the Cell Saver they looked at more than just protecting a battery from heat, it also looked at how to protect the battery from other punishing conditions. A battery can be damaged by vibration, so a specially treated base is included that helps mitigate any vibrations the battery is exposed to. The Cell Saver comes as a kit with enough material that allows it to fit most batteries, you just need to trim it to fit your application. The kit also includes some of DEI’s heat shield tape to finish the installation process.
