Jarod Johnson sent us photos of his 2013 Toyota Tacoma TRD Sport, a truck that will continue evolving over time, but at least we can all agree that it’s impressive as it sits. Johnson bought the truck in 2015 to be his daily driver and initially planned to just add some new wheels and tires. He enjoyed working on cars with his dad, so the pair took the opportunity to bond over the Tacoma. Wheels and tires came in the form of Method Double Standards with Toyo R/Ts, but the truck got so much more than that.
Johnson says that he recently put together funds to get a suspension upgrade going, which includes 2.5-inch extra-travel King shocks and Camburg upper control arms. He also added MaxTrac four-inch spindles up front. “I’m pleasantly surprised with the MaxTrac spindles and the stellar performance and look that they offer,” he said. “I am extremely happy with them and happy I didn’t choose a different company to go with. They’re definitely the go-to spindles for any truck if someone is in the market.”
The rear got Deaver U402 Expedition Series leaf springs to level it with the raised front end. That setup is good enough for the Tacoma to get 13 inches of travel, which Johnson notes is more than plenty for his needs.
Johnson says he’s extremely happy with the work he’s done so far and believes that mods like his should among the first changes that anyone makes to a new Tacoma. As for what’s next, he says he’s looking forward to adding even more travel to the suspension system and has many more updates in mind. He’s been documenting his progress with the truck on his Instagram page, which can be found here.
