High speeds combined with uneven terrain and unexpected transitions can wreak havoc on more than just the suspension of off road vehicles. Extreme whoops, drops, launches and off camber turns can slosh fuel away from a fuel pump, causing fuel starvation and a lean condition that can damage an engine. Fortunately, Radium Engineering’s family of bolt-on Fuel Surge Tanks (FST) can be installed on any fuel system and eliminate any chance of engine fuel starvation. They are also an ideal upgrade for users who want to increase the flow of their existing fuel system without having to modify the stock fuel tank or fuel pump.

Radium Engineering’s Fuel Surge Tanks install in between the fuel tank and the fuel rail and eliminate fuel starvation by providing consistent fuel delivery regardless of vehicle g-loads. The primary fuel pump in the main tank fills and maintains a consistent level of fuel in the FST, and the fuel surge tank delivers pressurized fuel to the fuel injectors via the fuel rail. Excess fuel at the rail is routed from the regulator back into the surge tank and excess fuel in the surge tank is routed back to the main tank, which allows the FST to maintain a consistent volume of fuel regardless of loads experienced in aggressive cornering.

Radium offers several types of fuel surge tanks that provide fuel starvation solutions on virtually any application. The company’s Standard FST is designed for use with one fuel pump, and the Multi Fuel Pump Surge Tank can accommodate up to three fuel pumps. Radium’s patent-pending FST-R combines a single pump fuel surge tank with an integrated adjustable fuel pressure regulator, eliminating the need for an externally mounted regulator and additional fittings and hoses. Radium’s Dual Bosch 044 Fuel Surge Tank is ideal for V8 and dual fuel rail applications, and on rigs that require higher volume fuel delivery than standard high flow 39mm pumps deliver. For vehicles that are already equipped with high flow external pumps, the External Fuel Pump FST is a pump-less system that incorporates single or dual aluminum pickup tubes in a large 2.2L container.
