A group of stakeholders of Brick’s Off Road Park met to find a way to make future events safer and less problematic. This meeting came less than a month after an estimated crowd of 15,000 attended the Trucks Gone Wild event June 4 to 7.
Brick’s Off Road Park is location in Poplar Bluff, Missouri about 160 miles south of Saint Louis. The park is open on specific weekends to any and all types of off-road vehicles from 4-Wheelers, dirt bikes, and dune buggies. It even has some technical up hill and rock climbs for the experienced Rock Crawlers.
Besides trying to find a way to make the off-road park safer, they are looking in to bring more people to events at the park. The events held by Brick’s get the area national recognition and plenty of outside revenue for the local economy.
During the Trucks Gone Wild event, patrol troopers worked two serious accidents, one of which left a woman dead. The troopers also heard complaints from residents near the park who were unable to get to their homes because of traffic.
The sheriff’s department was also having to deal with 911 calls. Calls for injuries and medical conditions, such as heat exhaustion took up most their time. Land owners around the park complained about damage to their properties.
There is was only one way in and out of the park this year which created two to three hour traffic jams. Security and access for emergency personal were also discussed.
The medical personnel at the meeting brought up the idea of a designated landing zone for an air evacuation could be possible. The landing zone a helicopter could respond within eight minutes in the case of serious injuries.
Paving the roads around the park as well as creating new ways to get to the park was also mentioned in the meeting. Widening the country road to the entrance of the park as well as paving that road is the long term goal discussed.
The great news of the meeting is that the events and the park will remain open. It was not mentioned on closing the park or restricting the events that could happen as we have seen in other places.
With cooperation from all sides, Brick’s Off Road Park will remain the highlight of events to come. While the possibility of hosting many more successful events in its future.
