Jeep’s Xtreme Recon Package Enhances Wrangler’s Off-Road Capability

The Jeep Wrangler is one of the least depreciating nameplates in the market and a segment leader in the convertible off-roader space. So it was not a surprise that Ford decided to use Jeep Wrangler as a benchmark for the all-new 2021 Bronco. Ford’s recipe was simple and involved ensuring that Bronco outperforms trusty Wrangler in every way, which brought us the Sasquatch package.

This meant that Bronco was the only open-top off-roader to get a 35-inch wheel option from the factory, but now Jeep has decided to fight back. Jeep is now retaliating to Ford’s offering with the all-new Wrangler Xtreme Recon package. Jeep claims that its new package takes Wrangler’s off-road capability to the next level.

Vice President of Jeep Brand North America, Jim Morrison shared his thoughts on the new product. “For the first time ever, the new Jeep Wrangler Xtreme Recon Package delivers 35-inch tires straight from the factory,” said Morrison. He further added, “We have been listening to and watching our customers make this one of the most popular modifications to their Wranglers, and now we will deliver this exciting new package, along with an industry-first 100:1 crawl ratio, off the showroom floor at our Jeep dealerships.”

Xtreme Recon Package Equipment:

  • LT315/70R17C (35-inch) BF Goodrich KO2 All-Terrain Tires
  • 17-inch x 8-inch Beadlock Capable Wheels
  • 4.56:1 Axle Ratio
  • 1.5-inch Factory Suspension Lift with uniquely tuned shocks

Customers can equip their Wranglers with 35-inch tires, which enhances the SUV’s water fording capability. The tires also improve the Wrangler’s approach and departure angles for better off-road performance. Unlike Ford Bronco, however, the Xtreme Recon package is only available on Wrangler’s four-door variants.

Xtreme Recon Package Specifications:

  • Approach angle – 47.4 degrees
  • Breakover angle – 26.7 degrees
  • Departure angle – 40.4 degrees
  • Ground clearance – 12.9 inches
  • Water fording – 33.6 inches

What is it Going to Cost?

Starting later this year, the company will also offer a segment-first factory-fitted 100:1 crawl ratio on the Wrangler Rubicon. Jeep has not revealed the pricing of its new package yet, so we’ll have to wait a while before we can see how Xtreme Recon’s pricing fares against the $7500 price tag of the Sasquatch package. The order banks for the Xtreme Recon package are now open, and the production is scheduled to start in August.
