EBay provides us with a plethora of choices. This applies to even the cars on the site. Whether it be the run of the mill vehicles to some of the most rare vehicles in the market. That’s where this eBay find comes into play.
While combing the sites for new and exciting things, we came across this 1993 Land Rover Defender 5 door wagon 110. It’s known as one of the 500 rare trucks in the North American Series. This ride, better known as Orange Crush, has been set up G4 Challenge Style. Extensive mods have been made along with the addition of the 300 TDI engine, and it even comes complete with the expedition trailer.
The “ORANGE CRUSH” was completely disassembled and a frame off, glass-out respray in G4 Edition TANGIERS ORANGE was completed. All doorjambs, window frames and engine bay were painted. The truck was re-engineered to be extremely capable whether on the trail, the beach, or trekking through the woods. A Land Rover 300 TDI turbocharged diesel engine was installed in January of 2000.
One really cool aspect of the 300 TDI is that is can be run on straight diesel, veggie oil or a blend of bio-diesel. This makes finding fuel extremely easy and if you want to make your own, extremely cheap!
According to the listing, Orange Crush has a list of the following modifications;
- Land Rover 300 TDI turbocharged diesel
- Land rover R380 5-speed transmission
- 2:1 transfer case
- Front-center-rear lockers
- Safari Gard bumper rock sliders
- Warn 9000 winch with poly rope
- Premier Power welder
- Air tank and ARB compressor
- Custom front, rear, and jump seats
- Rear tire mount with Defender cover and new Goodyear M/Ts
- HELLA roof rack mounted lights (4)
- HELLA bumper mounted lights (3)
- Custom roof rack
This is a custom made Land Rover Series-based expedition trailer featuring a fresh water tank, stove, and storage closet. It uses a custom built universal-joint hitch with harness and adapter.
The interior is excellent, features an ALCANTARA (faux suede) headliner, extra switching neatly integrated into the stock controls. She was recently tuned, runs well, and has good power and torque. Mileage shows 23,000, but we believe this to be on the restoration, and that the true mileage is unknown.
This is an incredible opportunity to own a very unique vehicle with a cult like following. These vehicles are highly sought after and seemingly never out of style. While at almost 100,000 dollars, this is certainly not a bargain, it is a very rare vehicle that has been well cared for. With the diesel conversion, the sellers are expecting the truck to get around 20 mpg. If you decided to run veggie oil, the cost to run this rig could be very low. We are sure it isn’t low enough to counter the extremely high monthly payments that you will be making, but it could help some.
Then again, where are you going to find a vehicle with this much character now days in our urban jungle?
