For those of you who need something beefier than a Silverado 3500HD, you’re in luck. Chevrolet has just recently announced that they will launch a new line-up of 4500 and 5500 Silverado trucks in the medium-duty segment sometime next year.

You may be thinking “doesn’t Chevy already offer those trucks?” The trucks that Chevy currently offers are just re-engineered versions of Isuzu trucks, whilst the models launching next year are a joint venture with Navistar.

These new trucks will be available in 2WD and 4WD with Allision transmission and the current Chevy Duramax engine. Just like in the past, these trucks will be offered in a regular cab and a crew cab configuration.

“The Silverado 4500 and 5500 will stand out because we’ve designed the trucks around how customers work. They will be powerful, highly maneuverable and among the easiest trucks on the market to fit with specialized bodies, such as dump bodies, rollbacks, freight boxes and more,” said John Schwegman, Chevrolet U.S. director of Commercial Product.

These new trucks should be much closer in design to the old Chevrolet Kodiak that so many truck enthusiasts loved. Plus with how much more powerful the Duramax engine is now with 445 hp and 910 lb-ft, the trucks should have much more potential. There have been rumors in the past that the US President’s armored limousine was built on the Kodiak chassis.

This would make sense since the Kodiak ended in 2009, and that limousine was built in 2009. A new armored limousine is being built which will probably be based on the new Chevrolet trucks, especially considering the timing.
