Chevrolet Adds Features That Matter To 2020 Silverado Lineup

Chevrolet is stepping their game up on the 2020 Silverado by adding features that truck owners have been asking about. These features include the 10-speed automatic transmission paired with the 5.3-liter V8 standard on the LT Trail Boss and available on the High Country, the 6.2-liter V8 will be offered on the Custom Trail Boss, LT Trail Boss and RST trims. Technologies including new trailering features and adaptive cruise control will also become available to the 2020 Silverado.

“In today’s truck market, customers continually demand more features, more technology, and more capability,” said Tim Herrick, executive chief engineer of Full-Size Trucks. “For 2020, we are delivering more in each of these areas. As a result, the Silverado now offers customers the most towing capability of any light-duty pickup and the most affordable light-duty truck with more than 400 horsepower.”

Changes Under the Hood

Some of the biggest changes for the Silverado come under the hood. the 3.0-liter Duramax turbo-diesel engine becomes available on LT, RST, LTZ and High Country models. The 3.0-liter Duramax is rated at 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque with 95 percent of the torque arriving at 1,250 rpm and peak torque arriving at 1,500 rpm and sustained to 3,000 rpm.

“Chevrolet engineers started with a clean-sheet design and developed an all-new engine that leverages the efficiency and refinement advantages of the inline-six-cylinder architecture,” Herrick explained. “It builds in advanced combustion and emissions technologies to optimize performance and efficiency.”

The 5.3-liter V8 and 10-speed automatic transmission make for closer gear ratios and an overall larger ratio spread which enables peak efficiency and smoother shift pattern.

The all familiar 5.3-liter V8 is back once again and this time it can be paired with Chevy’s 10-speed automatic transmission. This engine-transmission combination is now standard on the LT Trail Boss and is available on the High Country trim.

Another newer Chevy engine, the 2.7-liter turbo is also in the 2020 Silverado. The 2.7-liter turbo will be paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Technology Upgrades

The 2020 half-ton Silverado is going to be receiving features that its heavy-duty counterpart has. Cameras are a thing of the future and the 2020 Silverado is going to have 15 unique camera views available. This makes towing easier and allows the driver to see everything around them.

Chevy’s transparent trailer feature, which uses the tailgate-mounted camera and an available accessory camera that can be mounted on the rear of the trailer, is also becoming available on the 2020 Silverado. With the use of these cameras, it helps drivers to virtually see through the trailer, assists them when navigating parking lots, merging into traffic, and making tight turns.

“Also new on the 2020 Silverado is available with smart trailer technology allowing access to select features of the iN∙Command Control System from ASA Electronics through the myChevrolet mobile app,” Herrick said. “This can be used on compatible Android and iOS smartphones or through the in-vehicle trailering app on the vehicle’s infotainment system via Apple CarPlay or Android Auto compatibility.”

Technology on the 2020 Chevrolet Silverado pushes what the truck is capable of as Chevy brings in features from the HD models.

One feature that has become very popular on sedans is finally making its way to a pickup truck, Adaptive Cruise Control. The system features a single high-mounted camera behind the rearview mirror that scans the road and uses proprietary software and algorithms to maintain a safe distance to the vehicle ahead. The system can bring the Silverado to a complete stop and is integrated with the stop/start capability of the engine. Adaptive Cruise Control will be available on the 2020 Silverado LT, LTZ and High Country trims.
