Fans of unbridled off-road desert racing are already looking forward to the 2020 race season, but they aren’t the only ones. Racers are pretty pumped as well and for good reason. Best In The Desert, the largest off-road racing series in North America, has just announced well over $600,000 cash payout bonuses for overall finishers, making it the best paying off-road series in North America.
With the projected total payout for the entire 2020 season reaching a sum well above what was originally predicted, racers enter what is called a Triple Crown, a special spin-off of the “American Off-Road Racing Series.” So what does this mean for the various race classes contending in Best In The Desert?
“Make no mistake; an overall Best In The Desert Series Championship remains the pinnacle of off-road racing,” Race Operations Manager, Donald Jackson explained. “The Triple Crown adds additional excitement and interest to those following the sport. In addition to our increased cash payouts Best In The Desert also offers one of the richest contingency programs in off-road racing with over $3.7 million up for grabs in 2019. We are working very hard to elevate our series and reward our racers. The additional prize money being offered in 2020 is just another step in that direction.”
Drivers contending within their respective Unlimited Car/Truck classes will receive the highest Triple Crown bonuses. According to the official press release, bonus payouts of $25,000 are allocated for those landing in 1st place per race, while an extra $10,000 goes to the team coming in 2nd, and $5,000 for 3rd place winners. These bonuses are guaranteed in Triple Crown events contained within regular races throughout the 2020 season, so all teams have to do is prep, compete, win big, and repeat.
Limited Car/Truck, UTV, and Motorcycles/Quad classes will also be able to contend for higher year-end bonus cash payouts, adding even more paper fuel to the already sizable financial fire. While Pro Motorcycles/Quads will receive a $5,000 bonus, Pro UTVs will secure $11,000, with Limited Pro Cars/Trucks landing $11,000, and Unlimited Pro Cars/Trucks scoring a hefty $40,000 year-end bonus on top of what was already promised. All of these bonus cash payouts send the guaranteed purse for the Parker 425 and BlueWater Desert Challenge alone soaring to well over $100,000 for each event. Meanwhile, the Vegas to Reno race has reached a jaw-dropping purse that measures more than $125,000.
For contenders in Car and Truck classes, their chances to score big in the Triple Crown will occur during Best In The Desert’s Parker 425, Vegas to Reno, and BlueWater Desert Challenge events. Meanwhile, UTV, Motorcycle, and Quad competitors will take their stab at the Triple Crown in the Parker 250, Vegas to Reno, and BlueWater Desert Challenge races. All totaled up, more than $260,000 in additional guaranteed payouts will be up for grabs during the 2020 race season, and that’s on top of Best in the Desert’s normal cash awards.
“We’re very excited to make this announcement,” said Best In The Desert CMO Bryan Folks. “Off-Road racing is the greatest form of racing on earth. Our racers invest a lot in this sport and we wanted to find ways to reward them as much as possible. This new bonus structure gives our racers some additional incentives and titles to shoot for, plus ways to earn purse money outside our individual events and the normal year-long series championships. The addition of the Triple Crown is sure to create additional excitement and attention for our racers and fans.”
Race season is right around the bend too, with Parker, Arizona’s “Tensor Tire Parker 250” on January 10th-11th being the first of Best in the Desert’s 2020 races. The season is slated to continue all the way up until October 22nd-25th, when the series concludes with a grand finale at the Bluewater Desert Challenge.
