Overlanding products are front and center at SEMA 2021. The vehicle enthusiast who desires off-road adventures already knows that hauling all of the necessary camping gear will come with significant weight gains. Hellwig Suspension Products has all of this sorted out with vehicle-specific products that will help carry and support the load.
In their booth, Hellwig presented upgraded swaybars and helper spring kits for the most popular vehicle applications. To help demonstrate this was their 2019 SEMA Project Vehicle Attainable Adventure Overland Ford Ranger. Decked out with a pile of aftermarket goodies, this serious Overlanding / off-road camper-style rig lured us in where we caught up with Melanie White, President, and CEO of Hellwig, to find out what was new this year for them.
“Out front, we have one of my favorite displays. It can show firsthand what a swaybar is and how it affects your suspension,” White said. “With this one, you can easily move it around and flex it. When you try to move ours, it’s clear that it isn’t nearly movable.”
White went on to explain the importance of an upgrade swaybar when maneuvering through the terrain. “We want to offer a product to our customers that will help improve stability in cornering situations for whatever vehicle you may have.” Hellwig’s newest support is for the 2014-2021 RAM 2500, 2021-2022 Ford F-150, and the 2020-2021 GM 2500.
“Any time you put a bunch of weight on a vehicle, you need to have that stability and help,” White explained. By help, she meant their offerings in helper springs. The helper springs are an add-on that you add to your leaf springs to keep the truck level and sturdy. There is helper spring support for the 2015-2019 Chevrolet Colorado / Canyon, 2020-2021 Toyota Tundra, multiple options for Ford F-150, and OEM / private label too.
They also had a similarly built 2022 Ford F-150 setup up for off-road overland camping that was on display in the Ford Motor Company booth.
