Vehicle builds are one of the big reasons we love coming to SEMA. Different companies or shops take something that’s known and give it a different spin, and the end result is almost always a home run. Such is the case for Superlift, which was heralding the return of a special brand – Black Diamond – with this 2018 Wrangler JL build.
We spoke with Superlift’s Terry Ulven to find out the genesis of the Jeep.
“We’re proud to announce Black Diamond is coming back, and this Jeep is showcasing several of the parts we are considering for Black Diamond’s reopening,” he explained. “Black Diamond is going to be our premium offering when it comes to suspension and accessories.”
So, what Black Diamond parts went into the Wrangler? Quite a few, actually. “We installed a long-arm suspension system, complete with coilovers and bypasses, as well as rock sliders, fender flares, bumpers, and more,” said Ulven. “Suspension will be the main thrust of our Black Diamond offerings, since that’s what we’re known for. But our hope is that the bumpers, fenders, and rock sliders will help customers round out their Jeeps.”
The build started earlier this year and involved a great deal of prep work before the tinkering could begin. “We did a lot of CAD work to get the designs and everything done,” said Ulven. “It took all the time we had to get it done. It was a tight build and a tight deadline.”
From the beefy King shock absorbers to the Black Diamond trail armor to the hefty 40-inch Nitto Trail Grapplers, no bolt was left unturned by Superlift. Find out more about Superlift’s latest developments on its official website and on Facebook.
