The 2017 SEMA Show has been giving us a glimpse of what’s new in the off-road market. Today, we looked at Body Armor 4×4 and its HitchGlide, as well as bumpers for the 2018 F-150.
Speaking with us was Body Armor’s James Grossaint. He walked us through the latest and greatest, starting with the HitchGlide.
“The HitchGlide is a skid system that goes into a hitch receiver and protects the rear of the vehicle,” said Grossaint. “We also gave it some extra features, too.”
Not only is the HitchGlide a step system, but it’s also a vehicle recovery point. “The step on top allows users to access the bed of the vehicle, or the cab, or even a tent,” said Grossaint. “Also, there’s a hole cut out to allow a rope to pass through. With the rope wrapped around and the HitchGlide secured, you can pull someone out of a ditch.”
With quarter-inch steel and reinforced gussets, the HitchGlide could definitely be a great add-on for any overlanding or other off-road vehicle. The step surface was brushed and used rubber to make it slip-resistant, too. Grossaint also pointed out that the load rating for the HitchGlide was the same as whatever grade hitch it was mated to. “For a 2×30 or 3×30 strap, the strap will break before the HitchGlide does,” he said.
Elsewhere in the booth, Body Armor had Gen-2 Eco Series bumpers for the 2018 F-150. “Our design allows for use all over the country,” said Grossaint. “It has high-clearance wings on either side, allowing for 35- or 37-inch tires. It can fit a 30-inch light bar in the center and pod lights on either side. Also, there’s a skid plate underneath for added protection.”
Such were the great products we witnessed at Body Armor’s booth this year. For more information, check out the Body Armor website.
