Proform Parts has been making parts for classic cars for many years, and valve covers have always been at the top of that list. But, not all of those great valve covers were complemented by a matching air cleaner. That little oversight has been remedied, and now they have a matching die-cast aluminum air cleaner to go with those valve covers. Each air cleaner comes with a raised or recessed logo, and looks great dressing up the engine bay. According to Booth Platt, “Add our new slant-edge air cleaner to our valve covers, and boom, you have the complete look.”
It seems everyone rebuilding a classic car these days is putting more demand on the factory’s electrical system. For those not expecting to shatter the windows with a sound system designed for a dance hall, they have a 50-amp, mini alternator. This will also be great for you racers, as it weighs five pounds less than a factory 10si style alternator. Each unit is thoroughly-tested before it’s packaged, and is guaranteed to deliver the output needed. If you would rather have a factory-style 10si model, they offer those in either chrome or a black wrinkle-finish with 100 or 120 amp output. Booth says, “With the black wrinkle-finish alternator, enthusiasts can choose a complete engine dress up package.”
In an unprecedented move towards making things convenient, the guys at Proform are now selling complete header bolt packages. That sounds strange, but how many times have you bought header bolts that came in a package of six? For some of you, that’s fine, but what about those guys with a big-block Chevy or a Ford engine? When you need 16 bolts, two packs of six are not enough, and you end up having to buy more than you need. These complete bolt kits come with 16 locking bolts, which will cover just about everyone. What’s more, is these are not just ordinary bolts. The design of these bolts will not allow them to loosen because of engine vibration. If your bolts don’t work loose, there is less chance of blowing out a gasket.
And for you performance guys, Proform’s line of performance carburetors have gotten even better looking. For years, they have been known for their quality carburetors that feature a silver body, and purple metering and base plates. In keeping with the theme of black dress up, they are offering their carburetors in a black finish with the traditional purple base and metering plates. Booth finished by telling us, “It’s the same great carburetor with a great look and the same great quality is designed into each one.”
