One company that is synonymous with off-road lighting is KC HiLites. Since 1970, the company has been designing and manufacturing auxiliary performance lighting for off-road vehicles, going all the way back to the creation of its Daylighter.
Reinventing the way they manufacture lights, but not forgetting about their roots, KC brought plenty of new products to the 2015 SEMA Show in Las Vegas.
“One of the products we are most excited about is our Gravity Series,” says Casey Cordeiro of KC HiLites. “They are offered in a two different patterns – driving and fog – and are DOT, SAE, and ECE-certified street legal. They can be used all around the world, on trucks, Jeeps, and UTV’s.”
Cordeiro continued on with the Gravity Series by saying,”They use our patented Gravity Reflective Diode (GRD) technology Gravity LEDs that combines the advantages of LED lighting with the proven performance of KC’s precision reflector. What makes these lights different is that we turn the LED into the reflector to obtain the maximum use of the LED, but still get a 170-degree light range. We also have a Gravity Series insert for the classic Daylighter, so customers can retrofit their light.”
KC brought its Flex Series lights to the show, as well with different options to the existing line. “We have a single, dual, and 10-inch array. The biggest aspect of this line is the modularity and stacking potential … they run 10 watt LEDs and give the customer the capability to build their own light bar. The lights also have an interchangeable bezel available in gold, red, black, or blue.”
“Color temperature has been engineered into both the Flex and Gravity lines,” Cordeiro says. “Traditionally there is higher color temperature around 6,500K – the Flex line is 5,700K and the Gravity line is 5,000K. This color temperature allows you to see through the dust better; it is more of a daylight color than the bright white.”
The modularity and the custom bezel's allow the owner to customize the look of the KC's lights.
The ability to customize your light bar or expand the size is a niche the LED light market has needed. It is also great to see a company that has been involved in the off-road light market like KC HiLites adapt to the changing times. What would you put these lights on? Tell us in the comments below!
