As we made our way to the BDS Suspension booth, our eyes adjusted to the lighting and we weren’t sure what to make of the black vehicle perched off to the side. Could it be? It was! A brand new 2015 Chevrolet Colorado crew cab, sporting the deluxe Z71 package with the automatic rear locking diff, as well as the factory skid plate system for off-road protection.
Upon closer inspection however, we recognized that the Colorado had been given a significant lift kit, giving it access to the larger wheels and tires that had been installed since its arrival at BDS’ headquarters in Coldwater, Michigan. President Steve Olmstead was proud of his purchase, “This is among the first fifty of the trucks to be produced, in fact it’s the 47th sold here in the states. We bought the Colorado just over two months ago, and decided to give it a lift kit.”
The development team spent the next few weeks working on and tweaking the kit to achieve maximum fit and finish, and it showed just how well the system had succeeded when viewing it in person. “Our engineers followed our standard procedure for this product, first creating a drop bracket,” said Olmstead. “Currently, the real time-consuming aspect of the project has been getting the spindle fabricated and figured out.”
Testing on the lift kit has been a constant exercise, with the Colorado being driven every day for a lengthy time period leading up to SEMA. Olmstead stated that the kit will continue testing through the rest of this year, with hopes to have it ready to hit shelves in early spring 2015.
