Nitto Tire has been busy lately. Its engineers have had their noses to the grindstone developing a new tire that would offer SUV and CUV owners a new level of road-handling confidence in any weather. This year at the Specialty Equipment Marketing Association (SEMA) Show, the company is prepared to reveal the fruits of its labors.
The Nitto NT421Q all-season radial was designed with the sport-utility vehicle (SUV) and crossover-utility vehicle, or as some have been calling it, the consumer-utility vehicle (CUV) market. “But it’s no ordinary passenger-car tire just built in larger sizes to fit this larger, heavier vehicle market,” as Stephan Lee, marketing strategist for Nitto said. “The tire has some high-level technology designed and built into it.”
“The NT421Q features advanced siping designs, one of them is usually only found on winter or snow country tires. The three-dimensional sipes lock together to create greater tread block rigidity and deliver better traction in difficult road conditions where most other tires would encounter unwanted tread flex and irregular wear.”
“Its three-dimensional tread blocks act sort of like a cup and ball structure in which the two layers of rubber are less likely to slip and disengage from one another. These three-dimensional Treadlink sipes are located on the inner shoulders of the tire. The three-dimensional Multiwave sipes that are located in the outer shoulder of the tire are better for traction during cornering.”
Sizes range from 265/60R17 to 285/45R22, and a great feature of the Nitto NT421Q is its Quiet Serration Technology that is embedded in the groove of the tire and helps to reduce road noise. The design helps break up repetitive and reverberating sounds and noises. Along with the variable pitch tread blocks, these groves can help produce a tire that is a welcome quiet.
Rain or shine, the new Nitto NT421Q will run quietly and sturdily on your SUV or CUV for many years to come. A combination of aesthetic and engineering design has always been the hand that guides.
