For the pickup truck and SUV owner, ride quality and the ability to fine tune it are of utmost importance. The vehicle’s ability to successfully and comfortably handle driving over adverse terrain conditions are, in part, due to successful suspension system design and construction. Among the components of an integrated suspension system on a pickup truck or SUV are tires, shocks and springs.
Shock absorbers are one of the most critical of these components, because while tire inflation levels do play a part in ride quality, and springs control ride height and to some degree damp their own oscillation, shock absorbers do the lion’s share of controlling that spring oscillation. That’s where something like the new FOX Truck & SUV Factory Series 2.5 Coil-Over shock absorber with the Dual Speed Compression (DSC) Adjuster comes into play.
As FOX Truck & Offroad Division design engineer Bobby Smith explained, “the new Factory Series 2.5 Coil-Over Reservoir shock is perfect for trucks like the Ford F-150, Chevy 1500 and Toyota Tundra that have IFS, and the optional DSC Adjuster offers precise dual-speed flow rate adjustment for compression and rebound tuning. The DSC provides 10 low-speed and 12 high-speed levels of adjustment. The reservoir is cut from a single block of aluminum alloy, and the locking preload coil springs are adjustable for ride height.”
The external reservoir allows for additional oil and nitrogen capacity, and greatly enhances the shock absorber’s cooling ability. The 2.5 reservoir comes with all the necessary mounting hardware. Notable features of the Truck & SUV Factory Series 2.5 Coil-Over include zinc plating for durability, an application-specific 3.0 Eibach racing spring, a 6061-T6 hard-anodized aluminum piston, and a 7/8-inch hardened steel carbon shaft.
