Ask anyone what the coolest production off-roading truck is out there, and chances are you’ll hear talk of the Ford Raptor. We’ve seen a lot of them here at SEMA 2013, and we’re pretty psyched about what the aftermarket has made available for the desert-driving pickup. Case in point: the new headers from Doug Thorley Headers.
The new long-tube, stainless steel products are among the first of their kind to offer a Tri-Y design for the Raptor, as opposed to the 4-into-1 design available elsewhere. We got the opportunity to speak with Jamie Joyce, R&D Manager, as he laid it all out for us.
Joyce and his crew had access to the Raptor and in just five days, had its first finished header ready to rock. But don’t be afraid of the speedy production equating to cut corners.
“All of our products are pressure-tested for leaks in our factory, including, of course, this new header.” said Joyce. “We would have dynoed it as well, but unfortunately, the truck was so widely stanced and we couldn’t fit it on the dyno without running the risk of injury.”
Nonetheless, because this product runs similarly to the already-evaluated Tundra 5.7L part, Joyce makes the case that owners can “expect an increase in the neighborhood of 30 hp and 30 lb-ft of torque.” With durable wall tubing, standard ceramic coating, and a lifetime warranty, if the toughness doesn’t last your Raptor’s future outings, the promise of a free replacement will, and that’s great for peace of mind.
