Bumpers have to do a lot more in off-roading than are expected of them in normal, daily-driving use. Not only do they have to be tough enough to deal with rocks, brush and other natural elements, but they’re also expected to stay looking good when you’re parked.
Addictive Desert Designs (ADD) had this all figured out at this year’s SEMA Show in Las Vegas. ADD makes body protection parts for Ford, GM, Ram, Nissan, Toyota and Jeep vehicles, and on display were many of its newest offerings. We were especially interested in a hot new item from one of the company’s most popular product lines: the Stealth Fighter front bumper. ADD now offers the Stealth for 2007 to 2014 Toyota FJ Cruisers and Tundras.
Greg Foutz, general manager of ADD, was psyched about the Stealth Fighter, not just for its ease of installation, but also for its evident aggressiveness, explaining that the “bumper…is a bolt-on bumper that is easy to put on your truck and makes your truck look fast even while it’s standing still by combining the tubing shape of a traditional pre-runner bumper and the panel-style bumper.”
“It incorporates this innovative style and will leave people staring at your truck and wanting it every time you drive it or park it. We want you to feel proud of your truck, and be proud to own it and our products.”
Looks alone do not make a great product, however; there has to be the strength and durability to back it up. Foutz gave us the lowdown–fully boxed frame horns; .120-inch-wall steel tube construction; laser-cut, precision-fit skid plates; and stainless steel hardware. We expected nothing less from ADD.
